Talking MTX75 5 speed transaxle fluid
I was searching up and down and all over looking for what fluid to run in my transmission. Ford service information says run their Synthetic manual transmission fluid and everywhere online was telling either 75w90 synthetic gear oil, Royal Purple synthetic manual transmission fluid and 15w40 diesel motor oil. Found out the correct fluid to run from a Ford master tech which is Mercon V because it is a synthetic fluid, Ford now recommends Mercon VI but it is dealer exclusive from what I have been told. Focus shifts so much smoother it feels like a new transmission. Just wanted to clear this up for people so you don't have to do the searching like I did.

By all means only run fords fluid I had issues with running rp

Ya it's just hard to believe they say don't run ATF in the mtx75 in the service manual but I guess with Mercon V and VI being synthetic its great to run.

I just changed mine about 2-3 weeks ago and it made a noticeable difference. I was shocked when I found out how few ford dealers carried the synthetic oil and how expensive it was but if it keeps everything working well it's worth it.

It had about 77000km/46000 miles...it may have been a little early but I just bought this car about 6 weeks ago and since I was changing all the other fluids I did this one as well.

Ya it's a lot cheaper than a new trans that's how I look at it

I've been running Red Line's syn. for over 6 months and I've had zero issues FWIW

Most votes I've seen here are to spend the $ on the FORD synthetic trans fluid....

Rather than experimenting, at least for street use.

Don't skimp on the trans fluid. The Ford synthetic trans fluid has been formulated for the MTX75 and other Ford tans. They work much better with it.
