04 Zetec belt screeching

I noticed on my 04 zetec with 78,000 miles that upon start up my engine makes a loud screeching noise and I believe it is something to do with the belts but I am not sure.I have not noticed a loss in performance on the road and the sound will go away after about 5 minutes of driving. Thanks

Check the accessory (serpentine) belt tensioner for correct operation. They sometimes seize or lose the ability to apply proper spring tension to the belt. Your accessory belt likely needs replacement if it's old or has been slipping for a while.

Belt squeal on start up is usually the belt slipping on the idler/drive pulleys. It can also be the idler pulley bearing failing. Curing the problem simply involves replacing the affected parts.
