Turn Off AC During Defrost or Defrost+Floor Modes

I am pretty sure the AC kicks in when selecting Defrost or Defrost+Floor modes. The AC light does not come on and pressing it does nothing.

On our 2006 Civic this was the procedure to make the AC light/button functional and you could toggle the AC even in these modes:

THIS IS NOT FOR FOCUS THIS IS FOR 8th Gen CIVIC FOR REFERENCE
1. Turn car on.
2. Turn temperature knob all the way cold and turn the fan knob to off.
3. Put vent location to "face"
4. Turn car off
5. Hold down the Re-circulation Button and the A/C Button.
6. Hold down both buttons and turn the key all the way to the on position.
7. Keep both buttons depressed until one of the lights blink a few times, then you get a solid green light once the change has been made. Then let go.
8. See if it works by putting the fan on in Defrost. You should see the A/C light turn on and you should be able to turn it off.

A/C is always on in defrost mode, to dehumidify the air so that the windows don't fog up. Not sure why you'd want to turn it off, since doing so will greatly reduce the defroster's effectiveness.

On the automatic climate control the A/C indicator specifically says "OFF" when defrost is chosen. The OP is probably just stating that defrost is still running the A/C even though all indications say no.

Pretty common knowledge that anytime the Defroster selection is made it means that the air is being run through the A/C system to dehumidify it.

Currently in my Ti, I leave the settings in manual with Feet and Windshield icons illuminated. The AC indicator in the digital readout never shows "ON", even though I hear the compressor cycle. The AC indicator on the Climate page of MFT does show "ON" in this situation.

If I cycle the AC button twice on the actual climate controls(not the touchscreen), it will show "ON" then "OFF", and the indicator in MFT will go out. I also do not hear the compressor cycle after doing this.

It reverts when shutting the car off.

Hi, the actual A/C compressor doesn't turn on in temps below 4c so how can it defrost anything?

Good point. When the temp goes below a certain point the A/C stops cycling anyways, so why would one need to turn it 'off'...?

Because when it is raining and 50 degrees outside, you don't need the A/C compressor running and sapping horsepower and fuel mileage. Just blowing fresh air over the windshield will keep it clear of condensation.

It would be nice if the Focus had a way to disable it.

Hi, actually todays modern A/C make little difference to your engine power or the mpg especially on a 2 litre engne. The compressors are smaller and aren't on all of the time. I leave mine on auto all year round as it makes better sense for the maintenance of the A/C components...
