Rebuilding Duratec 20?
Hey everybody,
I'm new to Focuses and just recently had to work on a 2005 Ford Focus (unrelated to engine) and so I went out and bought a Chilton manual. While flipping through it I noticed that in the engine section it says something along the lines of "due to the tight clearances of the 2005 and on engines, the engine must be replaced as a unit and is not serviceable". I also lists NA for all the torque specs and states that Ford does not sell the parts to rebuild the engine. To be honest I was kind of shocked, as I had always assumed that you can just rebuild an engine if you choose to do so. Has anyone attempted to rebuild one of these "unserviceable" engines? If so, how did it go? I'm assuming you have to get all the parts aftermarket, but then how do you get all the specs needed to put it together? |

The D20 engine is the most abundant Focus engine and you can easily and inexpensively find one to replace yours if it is shot. Rebuilding it might actually cost more than just a simple swap. You can find these engines for just a couple hundred or so.

Manufacturers nowadays generally favor complete assembly replacement rather than rebuilding.
If you are curious about rebuilding a duratec, google mazda mzr rebuild and you can get an idea of what is involved. |
