how to swap fuel pump

wondering if anyone has swapped just the fuel pump not the whole pump assembly in an early style focus? my car does not have the update done and since im past the 10 year limit its not covered anymore, and i cant afford the $300 for the updated pump assembly and i also dont have the tool to cut the tabs out of the tank. so is it possible to just swap the pump itself and if so is there a write up or is it straight forward?

Strait forward, just follow the How To HERE. Though I didn't cut any heat shield off, I just unbolted it and bent it out the way. Some cut a hole in the floor that can be a lot easier but I don't think there is a link for that in the How To archive.

yea I didn't cut anything either, you just pull the butterfly nuts off of the heat shield bend it out of the way loosen the one nut with a 13mm socket. it will drop down get a piece of wood and hammer hit the plastic ring to jar it loose and voia, your pump will come out mate :)

You should be able to see how it comes out once you get it out of the tank.
