Is this something to worry about?

I just bought an 04 SVT 3 door. It runs great, I climbed under it today to fix the notorious cat bracket and saw this:

It will absolutely cause problems if you run through high water or somehow get oil, mud, or water in there and it gets on the clutch disk.

I worry more about the water/antifreeze marks running down it then anything

dont know how he would get oil in there but water in there wont hurt a thing , they didnt start closed bell housings till the early 80, also wouldnt hurt to cut a soda can to that size then silicone it on there

Yup won't hurt anything, as long as the part of the case that holds fluid isn't damaged then it would be fine. I would have ran a crack bell hosing on my SVT from a exploded clutch if it didn't punch a hole with the diff was at. Like Tom said it wouldn't hurt to silicon a piece of a can there though.

Examine the hole for any cracks propagating from the hole.

If there are any cracks, just drill a hole at the end of the crack so the crack can't get any longer.
