Duratec alternator
I have a 2005 zx5 ses was wondering if anyone has put a large case 6g alternator on a duratec. Been doing some searching I found these http://alternatorparts.com/6g-series...lternator.html the large case alts are much heavier duty. Also found that the Mitsubishi alternator from a ford truck using the same mounting method would output 165 or 215 amps depending on the version, and I can get one of those for $50 from the wreckers. Leme know your thoughts I need a higher output alternator, but not at the massive price of a dc alt, mechman, or the $165 for a 200 amp upgrade kit for small case amp from aspwholesale (that won't output near that high). A little info on my system 18" fi sp4, x5000 re audio amp, 4 8" mtx mids and 4 4" mtx tweets.

When I upgraded to an HO Alt on my Focus I talked to the techs from Powermaster about their alternators and they told me that the large case wouldn't fit unless you plan on doing some type of engine modifications and custom build some holding brackets .

Which one did you go with? I need to replace my alternator too. I looked at the 6G as well from C-F-M. Anyone had luck with the o'reilys alternator? Not a refurbed, a new one.

I called C-F-M and they put me in touch with the guys that build their alternators . Company called PA Performance and when I called and talked to them directly and told them what I was looking for they got me what I needed in a HO Alt. http://pa-performance.com/Scripts/default.asp And while your doing that , you might as well do the Big 3 and upgrade all your grounds . That helped out a lot also .

Helped out with what in particular? I'm a total noob when it comes to car electronics. And they have PA Performance alternators on Andy's Auto, I just checked this morning. How's it lasted so far?

I think I'm going on almost 2 years with it and haven't had any issues at all with it , they recommend using their pulley that comes with it but its impossible to get the belt on with theirs so I had to use the stock pulley from the original alt instead.

Also, would now be an opportune time to do the CFM UDP kit and throw a new serpentine belt on there? Hmmmm...... So many decisions. I need to make sure the tensioner is good too...

good info.
the "big 3" is upgrading the main ground cables from the battery to the chasis, block to batt, and power from the alt to batt. will help with the flow thwoughout the car. think of it this way. if you roll a marble down a garden hose it will get to the end, but may slowdown throughout the hose due to not having enough room to move properly. now take the same marble and put it down a 3" pvc pipe. it's gonna roll down it in record time and in a more efficient manner since there is more room to move. electricity works the same way. if you have a larger path to move through it can move faster and flow higher amounts through a certain point. stock is about an 8 guage wire, going to a 4 or even 0 guage will help everything flow more efficiently.

So what does upgrading all of that do? Make my stereo louder? Or make less electric resistance, and make the car more efficient somehow? Improve battery life? No sarcasm, I really do know that little about electronics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...WeijmfOA#t=33s Seems to me from the video and from other research I've done the only difference is the diameter of the case (other than the internal parts) the mount holes are spaced exactly the same. Presumably the only issue would be clearance with the engine or other parts. In any case like he showed in the video the diameter change is minimal a quarter of an inch at most. And the width of them doesn't look to be different. The voltage regulators are universally mounted between 6g alts just need one that works with my car. Gotta go to the wreckers tomorrow for some axle shafts I'll grab one while I'm there. Another guy on the forums put one of these on his 2.3l so it can't be that much of a hassle.
