Wiring a radar detector to lights.

Does anyone know how hard this would be? I can't seem to find a guide anywhere

You want the radar detector to come on when you turn your head lights on? It would just be a matter of hard wiring it to the correct circuit.

just a disclaimer: Please don't go cutting into your electrical system unless you have a basic knowledge of what you are doing.

Wouldn't it be better to wire it into the ignition? or anything that is receiving current while the car is on and not just the lights?

I tapped into my overhead console with a quick connect. I also fabricated a long skinny piece of sheetmetal, put a bend in it to allow the the radar detector mount, then moved the visor, removed the viser clip, drilled a hole in the fabricated sheetmetal. I then ran the screw for the viser clip through the sheet metal and and the visor clip acted like a stop. I will take a pic later on today when I get off work. This installation allows for a clean install, and with the placement of the radar detector inside the tint strip, nobody sees it. including the cops;) Rader detectors are line of sight devices, so the higher it is, the longer your effective range is, the less chance of you getting nailed for speeding:) the flipside is that if the cops use LIDAR, you are toast. They can only use LIDAR while they are standing still. If they are moving, it is RADAR.

Technically radar is only accurate when at a stop too.

All I can say is don't always 100% trust your radar. Just don't speed.

PLEASE do not take this wrong. What do you want??? Do you you want your cluster to flash when your detector catches a signal from an offending black & white?

they make brackets that attach to the mirror. your solution is innovative but I think it could have been done cleaner.
