Replacing factory sub

A local shop can replace my factory 8" with an 8" Kicker sub and fit in the factory box, is it even worth it or should I just go bigger?

Might be worth it. But the sub really isn't that bad in the Focus... the real issues are the speakers. They're OKAY but don't separate lo's/mid's/hi's very well. Money would be better spent replacing the speakers/tweeters than replacing the sub. Unless your motivation is just more bass.

Good point...I do want more bass....but the speakers could also be replaced as well!

I am in the process of replacing my lower door speakers. I was also going to look into replacing the sub. I find that the system has a lot of high frequency high and low frequency low but seems kind of weak on the in between.
Another post talks about disconnecting the dash center speaker and they said they liked it better. I tired mine for a few days and I missed the extra noise. So, I put a fairly decent coaxial up there and for my ears it is an big improvement. I looked at a Kicker but went with Polk Audio. I have had really good luck the them.
I would go for it, those kicker 8" subs are not that expensive and if it fits the factory box that will save some money. I am not for doing things that require modification of the interior.

You would need to find a sub that requires the volume that the factory enclosure provides. If you don't, it will be a waste of money.

yes this is true.. might not be entirely a "waste of money" but it would get the most benefit from the proper box/sub combo.

If you have the Sony system, there are a lot of reports that simply unplugging the crappy center channel speaker in the dash cleans up the factory system quite a bit. Seems worth a try first . . .
