Potential Performance Upgrades

Yesterday I found out how bad my tires really were, it was the first crummy day we've had here I decided to give it a bit of gas while i was going to work and i ended up on the other side of the road. This is made me want to get a smaller personal loan for the tires. But i thought why stop there? My real question is, what would be the best upgrades i could do for my car for about 1grand if not a little more. I've been reading all about headers, I also and interested in cams, any recommendation or feedback is greatly appreciated.

TL;DR What would get me most bang for buck performance wise?

I already have a steeda SRI, some sort of exhaust(not headers), Eibach sway bars, and the Eibach Pro-Damper Set for the '05 ST.

Well, honestly depending on the mod i could possibly install it myself, i have replaced the clutch, that was a pain and a half. so i mean i could probably install an intake mani and headers, that would also leave me needing a tune. But I would not be comfortable working on the cams myself.

If your labor is free, swapping in a junkyard 2.3 could easily be done under $1000 and would probably net the most gains as it not only adds hp and tq, but moves it up earlier in the powerband as well. Probably more labor than you are wanting to do.

154 tq @ 4250 vs 133 @ 4500
151 hp @ 5750 vs 136 @ 6000

I already have a 2.3engine, I drive an 05 ST. Labor would only be free if it was a less invasive install. I'm not too comfortable with too much engine work myself

A tune is the best bet, with a simple install at that. The flash tune will increase power and fuel economy.

Yeah I intend on getting the tune. I already have an SRI, and up hear in the PNW i would stay away from a CAI. I appreciate all the feedback but i think ive come to a decision of a cossie intake and then an obx or fswerks header, followed up with a tune. How much power could i expect to gain with the tune, intake, and headers given my set up?
