I did it three times in a row, so 9 months of doing 1 hour exercises with no gains. Sure I was fit, but I did not make any muscle gains. I am now just as fit, but I am making muscle gains and maintaining my cardio without killing myself for an hour.
I realized that P90x is bullshit, Tony Horton did not get muscular doing those exercises. It all depends on your goals, if you want to be lean and fit, do P90X, if you want to be muscular and fit, do this program www.jasonferruggia.com

Followed it to the letter, meal plan and all. Like I said, it got me lean and fit, but not muscular. When you are doing way to many sets, or sets to failure, you fry your central nervous system, and your form goes to hell. Ideally you want to lift heavy, but reduce your reps to about 6, or leave about 2 more reps in the tank. Any more than that, and you begin to reduce your gain. You also don't need to do a 1000 sit ups to get abs, in fact, you don't need to do ab work at all if you are doing the correct workouts. Dead lifts and squats use your core for the lifts. Arnold Schwarzenegger and other lifters never did crunches, their staple of lifts was what I just mentioned and lifting heavy.
This is of course dependent on your goals you want to reach, if you want to be lean and fit, then P90X works very well, but if you want muscle and at the same time be fit, then follow the website I posted, you will see that all you need is about 45 min of working out with about 20 minutes of cardio, every other day and you will retain the same level of fitness as P90X. At 39, this is the first time I have made incredible muscle gains while at the same time keeping my fitness levels up.

I did P90X to begin with and I loved it. I saw a lot of good muscle growth and ended up a little too bulky for my liking in the upper body area but I would go back to it again. I think it's a good program for people who are getting into working out.

I'm already pretty muscular to begin with; I started in on it because the family's predilection for type II diabetes forced my hand.
They were afraid in the ER that I'd be insulin-dependent because 31yr olds don't usually get what I did to myself... So: meds for a month while I kicked the shit out of myself in a bid to avoid needing medication for the rest of my life! Months later, I'm not hitting the program as hard at all, but I haven't needed my medication in 4 months. My dad keeps bitching about his lethargy; he doesn't have the will power to get on any track let alone one as grueling/effective as this!
