Trunk space in Titanium 18"...

New Focus owner (hello thread here).

My car has sport package with 18" wheels and the Sony w/subwoofer. Does the full size spare mean a higher trunk floor and less trunk space than cars with a mini-spare? Small-ish trunk/hatch space may be my only knock on the car so far.

Just curiosity ... I love how the 18s look, ride and handle.

Tim

If you fold your back seats flat, you'll see how much higher the rear load floor is.

It's really not that much higher, maybe 1.5" than those of us with a donut - our load floor sits flush with the lowered rear seats.

As for the subwoofer, just picture your cargo space without it.

It's a minimal sacrifice.

I wonder about the origin of this word "subwoofer" which implies it will make frequencies lower than a woofer. Well woofers have been making 20 hz tones which is as low as the the best human ears can hear and doing it since like the 1930s for theatre loudspeakers so where does the "sub" come from? Did "subwoofers" first find use as woofers in submarines?

Here's a cool thread from some audiophiles-http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwo...vs-woofer.html

Yes, subwoofer takes up a chunk of real estate back there.

OP here.

Ya know, I folded the rear seats all the way down (removed headrests, lifted seat bottom, folded seat backs) to haul some stuff to the dump on Sunday (second day of having car ;)) and I noticed it was a little lower than the trunk.

Duh, blond moment on my part.

And, yea the subwoofer is worth it. Stereo sounds good but I wish there was more volume on tap. With windows down and sunroof open, it's not quite loud enough for this old rock and roller.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the full size spare taking up a lot of room. 17's ride a lot better, are cheaper to replace, and give you a better turning radius. Its your money to blow though...

Lousy thing to say. I didn't "blow" my money. I wanted that. I wanted 18's. I wanted leather. I wanted a sunroof. Who are you to decide who blows their own cash? I've had 17's and they don't ride any better than the 18's. So they're cheaper...so what? I can afford 18's.

Amen brother amen! My only complaint is that Ford doesn't offer some of the options I wanted.
