12B41 anyone?

Just checked ETIS to see if I was up to date and saw where this is listed.....active grill shutter wiring harness replacement. Guess I will schedule a service visit. Not sure if this is a chaffing issue, fire potential or what. Google didn't provide any info.

Only certain model Focus built at Michigan Assembly Plant between May 22 and June 7 2012 seem to be affected.

IIRC it has to do with a broken wire harness for the shutter system, which if shut in the closed position could lead to power train damage.

But it "fails" in the open position to prevent damage. Unplug your harness with engine running...shutters will open and stay that way.

If you deliberately remove the harness once its running maybe, but if it was an intermittent fault right until the harness fails with the shutters closed then you'd be in deep trouble for assuming this to be the case.

The FSA states that if the harness fails when the ags is closed that powertrain damage may occur.



This is what the owner letter says describing the issue. It basically says that it can and may fail with the ags closed and then it won't re open since there is no signal, which could lead to powertrain damage.

Hi all. I'v been lurking for a while...finally found a reason to post.

So I went to a certain Ford Dealership in Maitland, Fl this morning for my 2012 Sterling Grey Metallic SEL's (born on 31.05.2012) first oil change at 3320 miles. I specifically asked the Service Consultant, who so proudly had "Ford Master Certified" printed at the top of his business card, if there were any updates, recalls or TSB's for my vehicle. I asked, at the end of my visit, "so there is nothing that the car needs to have checked, fixed, or updated?" He stated, with a sour look no less, "no, she's good to go!" Low and behold, I get home today at 4:30pm and what is in the mailbox? Just a little ol'letter from Ford Motor Company telling me about this 12B41 Program.

So before I write to the owner of the dealership, is there any saving grace for this "Ford Certified Master"?

BTW, this is the same dealership that let me drive away (yes, I'm accountable also, but I'm not a professional car buyer) with out having signed ANY of the DMV paperwork.

Don't mean to highjack, but everyone here seems to be all about consolidating threads.

Otherwise, I'm very happy with my second new car from Ford. Last one was a '97 V6 Mustang.

"Shutter System" Build Date 25 May 12

I went outside and identified the "shutter" system behind the lower grille. Since I parked it after an hour on the interstate (engine HOT), the shutter system was OPEN. The next morning I started the engine and went around to the front of the car and watched the shutter close (engine COLD). After about (5) minutes of the engine warming up, I watched the shutter OPEN. I'm going to go with the assumption that mine is functioning as designed and avoid any unnecessary dis-assembly of my new Focus at the dealer. Obviously not ALL the wiring harnesses were damaged in that time frame, but maybe SOME of them..............
