Engine Cover
Hey Folks I know this was covered elsewhere but I could use a clarification. I just purchased an engine cover and although it should be a five minute install, it's turned into a bit more. PartsCheap included (2) white taller pins and (1) shorter black pin. The only combination that seems to work at all is a white one at the rear of the engine, a white one to the left, with the short black one in front of it. The center is attached with a nut.
The cover still looks lopsided. Where am I going wrong ? YES, I am normally very mechanically inclined but it's very HOT outside :) |

If the cover seated down onto all the pins without bending the cover, you got the pins right. I tried all sorts of combinations because mine looked lopsided too....But it only fits one way. With mine seated perfectly, it looks like my engine is tilted a few degrees to the left. Not sure why.

My dealer tried to tell me I didn't get an engine cover until I showed him the ford etis website list of options. He then had to oreder me in the cover and the pins..... I received two black short ones and two white tall ones..... I too had to mess around with different combonations to get it right. But alas mine too is a little lopsided.

I just went out and snapped a pic--lucky for you, I pulled my cover this afternoon to polish it out. White ones go closest to the firewall, black goes closest to the radiator. Sounds like they sent you an extra black one.

It still appears that it is tilting very slightly to the left. BTW, I love how you painted yours up > VERY creative !! |

In Post #6 it appears that the posts aren't properly installed and there is a post missing. Here's my set up, three white posts and one black post. Look to the right of the dip stick, that's where the black post should be installed, between the two coil wires. You also may have to adjust the posts (not screwed down all the way) so the cover sits level. The engine cover on mine sits level and firmly in place.

I'll have to look at how I did mine - it took me a couple of minutes to figure out the ideal placement, but the cover didn't end up lopsided or anything. I'll try to look at it this afternoon and report back, and maybe snap a pick. If memory serves correctly, the two white posts are slightly longer and I put them closest to the firewall. |
