Ford SPI 2.0L Lawsuit

Has anyone filed a Class Action Lawsuit against Ford? (2.0L SPI Valve Seat Dropping Issue)

I bought my Ford Focus new from the Ford Dealer. The car drove fine on Saturday, no overheating, never had any issues with the car, running great as usual. Woke up Sunday morning, went into garage, turned the key and BAM. After hearing the noise I turned the car off immediately knowing that something was seriously wrong. Remembering the sound I heard I quickly ruled out the Transmission/Clutch since the car was parked and clutch felt fine. Went inside the house...

Once inside, did a couple searches online and saw all the reports of Valve Seats Dropping, right away I went into garage and pulled the spark plugs out. #2 was bent all up. Changed my clothes and went to work pulling it apart. 30+ minutes later I find the engine was done for with damage to not only the Cylinder Head but to the Piston and Sleeve as well.

If I had known this car was prone to this just as any other buyer on the market I would have looked the other way when purchasing this vehicle back in 2004. It's a shame and Ford needs to own up to this.

Holy hell dude, that's ridiculous. Have you gotten a hold of the dealer? I'd tell them what happened for sure, that engine is surely under warranty and they should work with you. Sorry you had to have this happen to ya, that's just ridiculous and hopefully Ford can step up with a recall or something.

I had thought he had just purchased it recently. If that's the case, then that's some really hot water.

Yeah, I am a little upset at the fact you have to "walk on egg shells" when you own this car considering the fact so many other Focus/Escort owners with this engine have encountered the same problem. If you do own one switch the head out quick before it happens to you. To make matters worse I am quite sure Ford Dealers still up-sell these cars in the used lot without disclosing this well known defect. In response to the above, I did have a warranty but that expired a long time ago. Thankfully, this car is paid for but I still feel like I have been ripped off.

Your piston rings didnt fail , they were abbused

The Valve seats are a MAJOR issues with the SPI heads and its a warranty issue Ford slid threw on , Ford knew/has known for YEARS this was a problem and even made THOUSANDS $$$$$$$$ selling haeds to people to fix this issues , I have built dozens of these engines with this failure (dropped valve seats)

The early Escort head which was the 1.9 just before the 2.0 SP was prone to cracking and I know people that made MILLIONS repairing the early Escort heads for cracks another Head Ford slipped through the cracks with

Both of these should of been a recall but wasent because most didnt buy the extended warrantys and once out of warranty there isnt much you can do

The SPI is a POS when it comes to the valve seats
