Squeaks, creaks, and rattles
Hey all!
I have a sound coming from my headliner, directly above the passenger seat, on the bulge around the moonroof trim. It can be heard when driving over small bumps, when the subwoofer picks up some bass, and even when I close my door while getting in. If I touch the trim the sound goes away. It's hard to describe, but it sound like their is some type of adhesive on the roof that helps hold the headliner because when I press against against it, it makes a "sticky" sound. Any ideas? |

My SEL sedan has the exact same sound as you describe, but from the driver side of the car, around the visor and moonroof control area. Just like you, when I push on it the sound goes away...only to return later.
I had my dealer's service dept look at it, but they said there was nothing they could do about it. They say they called Ford and that there was no fix for this. "It's normal." What?! A rattling headliner on a $25,000 brand new car is normal? If anybody else has this issue, and has a fix or dealer experience to share, please let us know. I'm tempted to drive to another dealer to see if they are willing to do something. It's aggravating to hear my beautiful, new, car rattle like a Yugo! Love my car. Even with the MFT re-boots, I love my car. But this rattle will drive me to climb a clock tower if I can't make it go away. |

I have this on my SEL hatch with moonroof. It sounds like when I push it in the roof liner isn't secure or the latch isn't as good as it should be. Though if it rattles again I just push it up and it doesn't rattle for a long time for me. I was considering mentioning it to service dpt when I take it in for first time free oil change / service.

I'm interested to hear what your service dept. says about it, if you do bring it up. They may develope some kind of fix if enough service departments from around the country call this in to Ford for advice. |

It doesn't surprise me folks are hearing sounds from the headliner. This is a really flimsy and not well designed area of interest. I plan on fabricating something to keep me from pushing the headliner up an inch every time I open/close the sunroof, though I think Ford should have already done this.

A friend of mine with an SE hatch (with moonroof) had the same condition and took his car in. It turns out there was a TSB out on it already. My five-day old Titanium hatch (also with moonroof) is exhibiting the same thing every once in a while but not badly enough to warrant a dealer trip yet. I will start a list of little things like that to be addressed at the first maintenance interval.

Mine has the same problem with the moonroof adhesive coming apart around the perimeter of the moonroof. If you open the roof, you can see a bead of semi clear glue that isn't stuck to anything. I am guessing the glue doesn't like the high heat from the sun. Makes a rattle noise and the headliner is loose. Working with the dealership on a resolution now.
Dealer didn't find a TSB, so if someone has the number, please post it. |

I'm glad this thread is getting some attention. If I press hard on the headliner the sound will go away for a short while but it always comes back.
I'm guessing there is no home remedy for this, so as someone has already stated, please share your dealership experience. For any Ford employees, can anyone confirm a TSB as someone suggested? And if so, what is the fix? Thanks! |

I saw my buddy last night to show him my new car, and we rode around in mine. He said they put some foam blocks up between the headliner and the inner roof liner to prevent the squeaking. Apparently there was some adhesive applied to those spots that dried a little too much before the parts were joined, so it was just tacky (enough to make noise) and didn't actually adhere. He said the fix substantially improved it.
