Now for tires
Okay ... I have been looking at tires sized 215/45R16 ...
So, I was debating between the Kumho XS and the Dunlap Star Z1. Then ... I was sold on the other threads to go Dunlap and to go with the Z1s. But the Z1s do not come in that size. Hmm ... the Kumho's do have that tire in that size. Also the Dunlap DZ101s have that size. But I haven't heard to good reviews over the Kumho Xs on these 101s. So, Thoughts? -Ray-

since it looks like you're in ST do you have camber plates? star specs are not known for their longevity on camber challenged cars.
I would actually go with 225/50-16 Hankook R-S3, I know the gearing is "worse" but if you find yourself hitting the limiter in 2nd this will solve that problem, plus the 225 more than makes up for it over the 215. On top of that the R-S3 is the ST tire to have right now. Check the nationals results. I ran them myself for over 150 runs co-driven in a BMW z4 coupe. Close to r-comp grip, takes a beating very well. You may need to water them on co-driven days with 80+ temps.

the RS3s that i tested out held up to heat better than any other tire. it was tested on a s2000.
i don't like a 50 series, i would say stick with a 45...

XS's like to run hot. so if your a singal driver car you probably wont get them to the heat you want. (i run XS's)
Kumho also seems to have a bit more side wall on their tires than other companies a 45 is like standard 50. better for gearing i guess. i hear good things about the RS3's. we should have got them last year for our STI but we ended up with dunlops and did this to them in 2 events.

Man thats a lot of pickup. I know several turbo tractors that run the Dunlops. One of them being a two driver car. They ran them to the cords and loved them.
I agree the RS3 is a top tier street tire. I will add that the XS is not a good wet tire in my experience.

just to throw out another tire. i ran BFG KDW 2's one year. as for a DD tire i like them and they worked well for me for autocross. also i found them "god-like" in the wet. awesome tread design. and not overly expansive compared to some tires.

well there you go no less than 4 experienced and successful autocrossers recommending the R-S3... seems like a no-brainer to me, even if the size isnt quite what youre looking for.
