you should shift around 6500 - 6700. the stock cams run out of power at about 6500 or so.

sweet, thanks. i have shifted at like 5,500 and 6,000 and it seemed way slower to me, but 6,500 sounds right.

Talking Shifting pointers in manual

So i usually shift at 6,950 right before rev limiter but dont know if its making me slower or faster doing that.?? Should I be shifting at like 6,000? my car has 4-2-1 race headers, 2 1/2 piping with n1 muffler, cold air intake, good plugs, and steeda wires, and my car wieght is under 1,600 lbs after everything i have taken out and off of it. I know that the stock 2.0 powerband dies after like 5,600 or so but what about mine??

I always take mine to JUST before the limiter. If you shift too early then when you go into 2nd or what-have-you, you will be at an even lower RPM.

Example:

If you shift at 7k for instance, then when you go into second you will be around lets say 4,000 - 4,500 RPM, hence you will be in a better power range if you were to shift earlier.

Like...

If you shift at 6k then when you go into 2nd, then you will be at like 3,000-3,500 RPM, meaning you will be in a lesse power band, meaning it will take longer to get up to speed.

I say shift as high as you can without hitting the limiter, that way you will be in the "sweet spot" of power.

Thats what I believe anyways.

theres a difference in engine redline and usable redline. engine redline is when your engine can no longer flow more air. usable redline is where your power starts dropping off. the rule of thumb is about 500rpm after usable redline is your shift point. so find a dyno sheet for your setup and look at the rpm right at peak hp, then 500 after that.
