so i think my friend is stupid
he says if i auto-x that i'll kill my suspension, and that i would be stupid to do that, and that i'd be replacing my steerting components and suspension all the time...?
is he right? or just stupid. but i do know it will put extra wear on those components, but i didnt think that much.

tires have the biggest wear and tear. The suspension should be ok for a while (i mean its meant to help corner and steer you anyways....) Your CV joints will probably wear out much quicker, but i dont care, im scheduled for my first auto-x in 2 weeks!

Auto-x will put a little extra wear on your steering and suspension components, but not that much. I won't say your friend is stupid, but he's wrong on this one.

I'm going to agree with everybody else here. It accelerates wear on certain components, but people wouldnt (safely) autocross old cars with 200k miles on them if it was hell on all the components. If a rusted out 86 VW can still get around the course safely, I think the Focus will be just fine for as long as I care to drive it.

If you're going to go balls out, then yes... you'll probably wear out your car. However, if you drive smooth (which in the end will get you the same time as balls out... at least in your case, I'd imagine) then then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
