I keep talking with people and apparently the manual trans in the 2nd gens are quite rare...

How many of you have a manual 5 speed in your 2nd gen? I wants to know. I has it. [wrenchin]

Ever since I drove my 94 Ford Escort, I've been addicted to driving manual. I refuse to own a car that is an automatic transmission. I feel lazy, and that I'm not paying enough attention to the road, the car, and the experience. I also don't let anyone else drive my car, so I have no qualms with putting in a special shifter knob :)

That's more manual trans than I thought, but I would put money on the fact that most of the cars made with em are on here or FJ.

What I was told at the dealer was, "The people who want a Manual trans seek them out, it's very rare that we sell a manual to regular people".

I really wanted an SES but the only way I could get a Manual was with an SE, which is OK I guess cause the color has grown on me and it doesn't come in the SES Tier.

Mine was the only one in the lot, and I am glad to have it. People say they did not know Focuses came in Manual....shows how uncommon it is lol.

Mine was the only one available in the city and the only other one available in the state of Texas was out in San Antonio, it was a black SE. Heck it never hit the sales lot, I went in and was told it was on a train arriving the next day. I said hide it, and I will see you tomorrow. Next day I owned it with 7 miles on her.

i always thought it was because of location also. around here, it's nothing but traffic, so i see nothing but automatic's for sale. now i go down south and they have as many manuals around as auto's while there is usually less traffic.

Red '08 SES Coupe with a 5M. bought used with 89K miles. Have put 1800 miles on it, and it uses absolutely no oil, and getting 37-40 mpg.

Gotta love those manual trannies vs. the slush boxes. If you know how to drive them, you can get way better mpg and performance than the auto. Plus, where I live the auto is constantly shifting back and forth with a little 4-banger.

4 door 5 speed here, when I bought my 09 was one of 3 in the 3 state area that had manual trans. 2 were sold before I got mine so that is how I ended up with a black one. Was supposed to be silver.

When I bought mine, the dealership had 60 Foci on the lot, and only 4 were manual. Of the 60, only one of them was black interior/exterior. And it happened to be a manual transmission. It was a match made in heaven.

At that moment, I knew it - I must have that car. And here I am, 7 months and 18,000 miles later. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I wanted a fully loaded SES with a 5 speed. My dealer couldn't find one so I ordered it built at the factory. It was a 6 week wait but well worth it. It was good fun watching the salesman's face when I whipped out my checkbook and paid the car off 100% NO PAYMENTS for me!. The car now has 26,352 miles on it and each day I have fun driving it!

Mine literally has every option available except its a manual. The first dealership I went to said there weren't any cars like it within 700 miles. They tried to convince me to buy a automatic sedan because of "resale value" So, I called another dealership around me and they found my car within 20 minutes. I ended up getting a nasty email from the sales lady for buying somewhere else after all the "work" she put in for me. Lmao.

Yea they tried that "resale value" crap on me too but I wasn't buying any of it! We all know that you don't buy a Ford Focus for a resale value. You just keep driving it until the wheels fall off and it wont go any more then buy another one. The 08 automatic trans just doesn't have the same performance as the 5 speed does. The 5 speed is great in the snow and also lets you squeeze more get up and go power from the stock engine. Also the 5 speed weighs much less then the auto trans. Less weight means you can haul more fat people around! (I make em ride in the back seat) LOL

I just wish it was a "6" speed, Ford is a little behind the game on this one.

I love my 2 door 5 speed - I've already put ~20K miles on this car since March and loving every one of them. I'm easily getting 35-36MPG cruising at 75-85mph ~100 miles a day :)

WOW! kinda hard to bust a manual transmission!. You must be banging it around a lot!. I picked a 5 speed as I figured the only thing that would break would be the clutch. What do you do to that poor thing?
