For driving in the twisties being able to down shift as you approach a corner is important. Knowing how many rpm's to pick up when you push the clutch in and move the shifter to a lower gear is key. This is something you can get a feel for by practicing as you approach stops or slow down on exit ramps. Ideally you'll make a quick stab at the throttle, bring your engines up several hundred rpm's. When you quickly let out the clutch and there is no driveline shock you've got it down. You can contiue deaccelerating under engine compression, or be in the right gear for accelerating. I like to corner at around 5k rpm.
