Like Marde suggested, a preassembled strut is perfect for a DIY'er. It almost makes a strut job as simple as shocks. So, if you've replaced shock absorbers before, then you're qualified for this job.

A caveat: virtually all of us have had trouble getting one of the struts out of the steering knuckle; for some folks it was the passenger side, for others it was the driver's side. You can try to make life easier for yourself by soaking the strut/knuckle junction & knuckle pinch bolt in your favorite penetrating oil (taking care of course to keep it off of the rotors), but that might not help much.

Also, it makes sense to replace the rear shocks at the same time, with the same brand. The mounting nut might be tack-welded, so keep that in mind if you're tugging on it and cursing the rust.
