These things will cut up corners around all kinds of other, more expensive vehicles. I've auto-crossed against them; hell, find the same stretch of twisty road with the car's in question: the feel is soooo much better in the Focus.
I was in the same debate with what car to choose over a few months ago. This is what won me over. Also, the interior and exterior of the Focus is far superior to the Corolla and Civic.
In my scenario, I also had the FR-S/BR-Z in the mix but the wait time to get one (I could not acquire one immediately even with cash in hand), the difference in price (bought my Focus pre-owned w/ 16,191km for sub $23k), and the fiance's statement about practicality won me over
. As much as I wanted RWD, fun to drive was all that mattered. And yes, a Focus DCT was VERY fun to drive.
