I don't think you would have any issues going to a 215/50/17. As long as the tire is comparable to the stock tires in size and diameter, there should be little to no variance in tachometer or speedometer. Weight should be also negligable going from 16 to 17, more wheel less tire it is almost a wash. A cheap route is to find someone selling there stock 17's on here or craigslist. A lot of times you can get both tires and wheels for $500-800.
