Do what I do, if you suspect ice, scuff your foot on the road and see if it is slick before you get in the car, and YES I'm serious...it works.
This is what I do. Or I'll give it a quick burst on the accel or try and the brakes. If the tires spin or my abs kicks in...it's icy. Has worked for me for years.
