Automatic Car Washes and the coin operated kinds use harsh chemicals that can hurt the clear coat on your car. Add to it the brushes from automatic and coin operated kinds and you are basically using sand paper on your finish. That is why you see cars with hair line swirl marks from these processes. The best option is the touchless car washes, however, they still use some strong chemicals and can hurt the clear coat. During the winter I simply take my car to a touchless wash, but when I get home, I go over it with a quick detailer.
