The filter still gets consumed at the same rate as far as I'm aware, depending on the quality of the filter it might be safer to still change the oil filter at the normal interval, top the oil back off and possibly skim a sample of the used oil for an analysis to determine how far you could stretch between changes. There have been many discussions about oil changes in the past, but the debate still rages on.
