The auto manufacturers don't just dream up the specifed torque values and torquing procedure out of thin air. The engineering dept. will determine the torque value by looking at the expected loads, the material spec., fits/clearances, environment, thread (course, fine, superfine), allowance for run-on torque, lubrication, etc. When a torque value/torque procedure is specifed in the Owner's Manual and/or Service/Shop Manual, don't second guess it.
