In Illinois, apparently, state tax is paid on the negotiated price BEFORE incentives are applied. Other states probably use this taxation method, as well.
I'm in the middle of a purchase and was a bit annoyed, but not surprised, that this is how it's done. I'm pretty comfortable otherwise with the price of my new Focus.
