Well in the case of the Focus ST-R dont forget the weight savings from dropping support for cargo and passengers.
I would assume it also has dropped the fuel tank in favor a fuel cell and surge tank. Also the weight savings from an AC delete, heater core delete, MFT + dash delete, passenger and rear seat delete.
I can only guess that if the engineers behind the ST-R were worth their paycheck the ST-R probably uses an oil cooler combined with a smaller alloy radiator for better cooling while saving weight.
The list of things deleted from a purpose built racecar gets long and frequently purpose built racecars are seamwelded.
