1.) You will never be able to pull of the look of an ET10 wheel without some serious fender work and a wide body. Sorry.
2.) People are giving you some seriously good advice. You should take it; even if it's with a grain of salt.
3.) If you are really that dead set on cutting your struts/shocks to shorten them, instead of cutting them and then trying to weld them together, cut it to where you want it and rethread the top. It will be much stronger in the end.
