Dodge looks primed to join Hyundai in making matte-gray paint available to the masses. Present during the setup of a recent Dodge dealer event, our spy shooter rushed in for pictures of a lusterless Dart R/T, complete with a host of Mopar accessories. An employee who assisting the preparations told our snapper that this car previews a special-edition Dart that will go on sale at some point.
The reality isn’t so certain. According to a Chrysler spokesperson we called for clarification, “the vehicle is a design study created for a dealer show/special employee event, but just a concept at this point.” It’s possible that the matte Dart will appear at the L.A. auto show in November.
Beyond the paint, there’s much on this car from the Mopar catalog. The hood duct appears to be identical to the cutouts on both the Dart GTS 210 Tribute concept car and a recent one-off Dart promoted with “international recording artist”—Chrysler’s description, not ours—Pitbull. (In fact, the Pitbull car was painted matte white.) Dark-finished 19-inch wheels are a new design but look ready for production, and Chrysler promised a Mopar-branded decklid spoiler for the Dart back in January; it should hit the options sheet soon.
