Got it all tore down tonight. I was shocked and amazed at a few things.
-The water pump pulley nuts were hand tight....didn't need a socket to remove them.
-The Tensioner was broken.
-I do not have a 'lower splash cover'.
-The previous abuser REALLY liked anti-sieze on his plugs.
-Removing the crank pulley was the hardest...had to use the starter and breaker bar trick. My impact wrench wouldn't do the job.
Big question: How am I sure that I'm at TDC and not BDC? I can see Piston 1 up, but I also see Piston 4 up. I had this issue once in my Firebird and overheated the engine. I just want to be sure I'm doing it correctly.
I put the pin in and rotate the engine. It hits, but if I rotate it backwards a bit, it hits again. Nowhere in this span do the cams lineup for the bar to slip in both slots.
