I know with XM they also broadcast a terrestrial signal in larger cities to handle issues with overpasses and tall buildings. I do not know if Sirius does the same.

I've had three cars with XM/Sirius in the last 6 years and this is the first time I've encountered this issue which I why I assumed it was an antenna issue. But checking the Sirius repeater map I notice that most of the repeaters in the area where I normally drive are currently inactive. Hmm.
