You're not hurting anything by doing it more often, but I'm not sure it's merited. To me, if they're recommending doing it at 150K and you're doing it every 30K, that's a lot like taking a 10K recommended oil change interval an doing an oil change every 2,000 miles. If the peace of mind is worth the money, go for it.
Just IMHO, $200 for that service isn't crazy. But it IS all the more reason to learn how to do it yourself. Truthfully, if it's as simple as a drain plug and pumping a couple quarts of fluid, yeah I'd probably do it myself every 50K or so; it should be too cheap and easy not to. But for $200 a pop, it's really questionable.
The VW procedure isn't as simple as drain and fill. The fluid has to be at the right temp and you need VAG-COM to do some of it. $200 is way too much because parts should be less than $50. It shouldn't take a Ford mechanic much more time than an oil change.
