E10 versus E0, my observations
I've been using Fuelly.com to track my mileage in all of my vehicles since 2008. It's an awesome website for those who are serious mpg trackers.
On to the reason for my thread.....
The debate has been wide spread about using E0 100% pure gasoline or E10 up to 10% ethanol gasoline. Of course it's a common fact that E10 will result in lower mpg, but not enough to constitute struggling to find E0 gasoline. In my area, only E0 89 octane is available at the pump (very few locations).....E0 93 octane is only available at boat docks/marine use (over $5.00 per gallon - no thank you).
What I have concluded from testing both E0 89 and E10 93 octane in my car. On average, 89 E0 cost ~.40 cents more per gallon at the pump compared to 93 E10. My car averages 1.7 mpg better per tank with E0 89 octane, however....the peppy response I get with 93 E10 fades away.
E10 93 - average cost = 15.4 cents per mile (city driving)
E0 89 octane - average cost = 15.7 cents per mile (city driving)
I pay 1/3 cent more per mile to use E0, yet have only 1 reliable place to buy it, and that's far out of my way most of the time. It's simply not worth it.
The increased price of 89 E0 is not worth the mpg increase or slight loss of engine peppy response compared to 93 E10 fuel.
