MJB, no you are not screwed. If you understand how the DCT operates differently than a traditional torque converter transmission and have no
pronounced shudder or shifting problems, your car is most likely fine. My wife's Focus shifts beautifully; I have just ordered a second Focus for myself. They are great cars. Just make sure that if you have any questions or problems that you discuss them with your Ford service people.
There are DCT software updates available. Check with your local Ford dealer to have your software levels checked and any applicable updates applied; at the same time, be sure to ask them to inspect the undercarriage for any leaks. I do this every time I get the oil changed.
