My 88 integra with 100k miles was the most unreliable POS ever, and went through a liter of oil every 2 days.
My gfs 2000 Civic SI had to have the top end rebuilt at 90k miles.
My 2001 Prelude at 70k miles also went through a fair amount of oil, and the back was always covered with soot. And the engine had a terrible ticking noise associated with most VTECs of that era.
All these cars were mechanically inspected before purchasing, driven respectfully and properly maintained.
I just traded my 07 Ranger with 90k miles for a '12 Focus due to gas mileage. Didn't give me one issue ever, always ran great. The Focus now has 4000 miles on it and has been perfect so far. Maybe I've just been unlucky with imports, but Honda engines have really been horrible for me.
