Again, it's sort of counter-intuitive because the line in will play happily while a USB device is connected *until* I actually play from the USB.
Following this link takes you to a page where you can follow the "Exploring Entertainment by voice" link to a more detailed list of commands. The list of available commands does appear to be complete for the 2012 Focus with Sync/MyFord (no touch). However, at the top, it says: "SYNC® voice commands can control your AM/FM radio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, USB media player, or Bluetooth® Audio device.27 "
The "27" is probably some fine print somewhere (which I couldn't find) but the part about controlling the AM/FM/Sirius radio, of course, doesn't work on these models.
It would be nice if Ford could clarify exactly what features are available at what level. My "in-car technology specialist" who "worked with me at delivery" (10 minutes sitting in the car pressing buttons) was unable to explain it clearly, and may even have been wrong about some of the capabilities he described. Of course, at that point, you get what you get, but there should be someplace that clearly spells this out before that point.
Again, thanks for your time and effort in clearing things up.
Joe
You're welcome, Joe. You should be able to switch from USB to LINE IN, by giving the voice command LINE IN. I'm going to get a hold of a thumb drive and try this out on my display here. To clarify, when this happens, are music files from the USB actively playing?

You're absolutely right about the fine print. If you scroll down the page, you'll see: VIEW ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURES.

27. SYNC is available on most Ford vehicles. Features/functionality vary by vehicle/model. Driving while distracted can result in loss of vehicle control. Only use SYNC/MyFord Touch/other devices, even with voice commands, when it is safe to do so. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Traffic alerts and turn-by-turn directions available in select markets. Message and data rates may apply. Not all features are compatible with all phones.

Hi, CliftonBruce -

The Samsung Galaxy III hasn't been tested and we yet to be able to do the same with the iPhone 5. I know when the Galaxy S II on the T-Mobile network was tested, it supported text messaging. In order for a phone to work with this feature, it must support Message Access Profile (MAP). This is a Bluetooth standard developed for the exchange of text messages.

For a list of tested devices, check out:

As new iPhone info is available, it will be shared here:

If you have any additional question, please let me know. :)
