Kinda sucks for the guy in the Escape unless he needs all the extra room, he's paying another 7k or so more for it I'd guess since he said they only took care of taxes and fees etc. but he still had to pay the difference.

Sure but he's happy. Built on the same platform, so he likes the performance, he likes the extra room and he likes the fact that it's just a traditional slushbox and not the DCT.
So, he's not really out any money, if he had gotten the Escape to start with he'd still be paying that difference.
