Definitely a combination. I'm 20 years old - and I'm in a vast minority of my generation of college kids who know how to drive a stick. (Let alone even know that cars come with 3 pedals)

I also think that the rise of the SUV killed it. After the SUV boom, now transferring back to smaller cars because of gas costs, people just don't want to bother with stick because they're used to their gas guzzling automatic SUV.

Also it makes it harder to eat, text etc... Which I see as a benefit actually!
