Bad caps can do that, but no, I have not read of that with one of the new cars. Believe me, we'd hear about it. Someone will complain about everything from cup-holders on up.
On newer cars, regardless of manufacturer, it is not uncommon for the reservoir to be unavailable for a short time. This was covered under warranty right?
