Not too sure about our cars, but there should be a metal clamp that goes around the sway bar bushing that holds it all to the frame/subframe. Did you loosen this bolt?
I remember an instance on my Geo Tracker, undoing the swaybar before loosening this bolt, and the end of the swaybar spun up under force and whacked me in my chin...wan't too bad but didn't feel good either.
