Y'know.... patience is a virtue. Some people were out shooting off fireworks. Other people were out fighting brush fires, and some people were just too plain drunk to do much of either. I was writing answers to political threads in Gen Chat.

What you're dealing with here is the PCV and PCV routing. Yes, if your have a split PCV hose, then blocking it off and installing a catch can should solve the problem.

No, your engine doesn't need oil through the intake to run properly. That usually only causes emissions test problems.
