It can allow hot, underhood air into the intake tract, which will hurt performance. The noise is pretty obnoxious. You are much better off doing the newmission mod and allowing cooler air to get to the filter. It sounds better as well. More subdued, not ricer.
BTW, checked out your photos. Nice stuff! I was in Edmonton in July of '08, but it was only for a night.
