I haven't read about this in the manual yet....Simply putting the shifter in "S" doesn't mean it's in manual mode?
The car is not in manual mode until you press the switch on the side of the shifter to either shift up or down. Just putting the gear selector into S engages the automatic Sport mode shifting pattern which tends to stay in lower gears and at least at normal speeds will not shift into 6th gear.
When it is in manual mode you will see the gear number selected after the S gear position indicator on the LCD display. However if you do not hit the rocker switch/ manual shift button but put it into S it will more aggressively hold on to gears on its own shift schedule.
