For those not following... I did not want to use the retaining nut that came with the knob, it added at least 1/2" to the knob height and I preferred losing 1/2" instead. Used a 1/2" drill stop (or set depending on who you talk to) and just set screwed it to the shifter shaft. This would make it possible to reinstall the boot up against nearly any knob.
Nice job thanks for the idea I'll be doing this one. Also American shifter has some pretty cool knobs. I about geeked out when I saw this one. I overcame my inner nerd on this one but it was close. lol
