This all reminds me of the MkI Focus. Many early adopters had strut bearing failures and had them replaced. Somehow I lucked out of that one and have a 2001 with 126K miles and the original strut bearings.
Here's to hoping history repeats itself.
One thing is for certain, Ford will figure this problem out and fix it in the long run.
