Since the OP says it's a 10a fuse thay blew as he installed it, I am going to guess it's the one connected to terminal #3 on the alternator.
Either the wire is shorted to ground between the alternator and the fuse that keeps blowing, or the alternator has an internal short.
I believe that's the voltage sensing wire, it isn't seeing the volts it want there so it keeps the alternator output maxed out.
