Price wise its not as big a jump as you'd think, since the SE can be loaded to a higher sticker price than the base of the current SEL, but without the niceties such as the puddle lamps, dual-zone climate control, monotone cloth or leather interior, etc.
Personally I would be unhappy if I had an order for an SEL that got bumped into the 2013 order que to find out that there is no way to get a car in Frosted Glass with rear disk brakes, and alloy wheels, particularly in a hatch, since in an SE the only way to get four wheel disk brakes with that paint color is the SFE due to the interior color selection required, medium light stone.
From a production logistics stand point it makes more sense to have fewer variants since with the addition of the ST and the Electric there would be 6 different trim levels currently, but if the SEL went away that takes it back down to 5.
